What matters most?
I believe our lives should be marked by an emphasis on the things that matter most.
In turn, the things that matter most remind us of our purpose. It’s almost cyclical. Doing what matters the most reminds us what matters most and keeps us focused on those things.
So, how do we live on purpose? I believe it is by putting our attention and energy towards what matters most.
In a conversation with my dad the other day, he shared with me what matters most. It is very simple: God’s Word and relationships. Ultimately, God’s glory is what it is all about.
The Westminster Shorter Catechism states that “A man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy him forever.” I wholeheartedly agree with that statement. A sum of everything that we can do to glorify God and enjoy Him forever can be summed up in 2 categories: God’s Word and relationships.
Here are a few guiding questions to discern if you are living on purpose:
Are you a man or woman of the book?
How frequently do you read the Bible?
Do you desire and enjoy God?
Do you primarily view God as someone you work for or walk with?
Do you prioritize people?
Are you consistently building relationships?
I hope these questions help. They should give you a clear measure on if you are living on purpose. Your purpose is clear, the choice to live on purpose is yours.
Too often we cushion our own purposelessness by asking what our purpose is. That isn’t the answer. You know your purpose. You know why you were made, and who you were made by. Now, the ball is in your court. Knowing and doing are two different things. The people who bridge that gap are the ones who live on purpose.
Today, step out of your comfort zone. Choose, as only you can, to live on purpose.
You wonder why our mission at 1Word is to choose it, rep it, and live it? Because it is so easy not to. Truly living is a choice, and the best time to make that choice is now!
