Today is Thursday, what are you thankful for?
I ask myself this question every week. It is so crucial to develop habits of gratitude that keep us grounded and remind us of all that we have to be thankful for.
While I have a daily habit of journaling what I am thankful for or going for a walk of gratitude, "Thankful Thursdays" are an opportunity to take it up a notch! Every Thursday is an opportunity to take a deeper reflection on the many blessings that God has poured out on me.
First and foremost, God has blessed with his presence. Without God's presence in my life, I could not have salvation, grace, mercy, or freedom. He alone, through Jesus' death and resurrection, can provide me with those things.
Secondly, I am thankful for the people that God has placed in my life. Being married for just over a month has been the absolute best! Wy wife Haley is amazing, and we are thankful to be in families that love us and want to spend time with us. I am also incredibly thankful for the friends and co-workers that I have. It is such a privilege to work with people that I love on a daily basis, and the friends that I have are a tremendous blessing.
As you think about you life today, what are you thankful for?
After answering that question, I want to encourage you to establish rhythms of gratitude in your life. "Thankful Thursday" can be your first one, but I hope that you will establish a daily habit of gratitude along with other weekly rhythms. Consider a daily prayer of thankfulness or a weekly time at the dinner table in which you have everyone in your family share 5 things that they are thankful for.
Remember, thankfulness realigns us. Gratitude has the power to reshape our thoughts, emotions, and actions. Pausing and naming specific people and things that we are thankful for can change the entire trajectory of our day.
I encourage you to take advantage of every "Thankful Thursday" you have to tell someone that you are thankful for them and to pause and reflect on all that you have to be thankful for.
